Movie Monday…Wednesday

Hey! I found a great new sight.  It is called New Stitch a Day and if you sign up for e-mail, you will be sent a new knit and crochet stitch to learn each day.  The sight also gives you each pattern in a written version.

At first, I thought the crochet videos looked a little clunky, but then I remembered I am left handed. Duh!!

Go check it out!

Movie Monday 6/11/2012

Pretty, pretty this week.  I have some sashiko to show you.  I never realized there were so many designs.

I think I will get out my little sampler and finish it up…

Enjoy!

Movie Monday 6/4/2012

And here we are in June!

I decided that we all need a little Eleanor Burns in our lives.  As a beginning quilter many years ago, I remember that watching her videos always made me feel that I could be a quilter! (My daughter says that we should make the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay watch-they will talk in 5 minutes!)

Anyway, here is a cute quilt idea:

And Today is….

Tuesday.  Only it feels like Monday.  So of course I am late with this week’s video.  Waaay late.  Like a week and one day late.  Sorry.

But I had a good excuse! Well not really. Adrienne called last Monday evening and said that she and Joe and Lenny were coming to see us.  Now! They left at 11:00 pm and arrived early Tuesday morning.  They stayed until Thursday and I worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  We had a great time and I have LOTS of pictures to prove it!

So here is this week’s video. Since I will probably never visit a Quilt Market, I have been watching videos of the event on YouTube.  And here is a very nice one from Moda:

Enjoy!

Movie Monday 5/7/2012

I just checked: it has been a while since my last Movie Monday.

Oh dear.

Well, I am back today! This video is more cute than anything else.  There were also some neat ideas for small gifts that would probably be quick to make.

Enjoy!

The return of the phantom quilter!

An explanation of what I have bee doing coming soon.

In the meantime here is today’s video.  I really have been trying to move more lately-the bike is here! If you want to add some movement into your day, consider stretching before sewing.

Enjoy - and move!!

Movie Monday 3/26/2012

Now that I am almost finished with this:

DSC03108DSC03109

I have been thinking about doing something with my left-over yarn,  Each skein of color gave me enough yarn for two repeats but not quite enough for three.  And truthfully I am not sure that I had the heart to do another set of repeats.  Each row is about 72” wide and takes me about 30-45 minutes.  I want to be done!

Anyway, looking around different sites, I found this pattern:

This first video is just an intro-calculating yardage (do people do that?) etc., but she has several videos on how to finish a neat looking scrappy afghan.  I am thinking of doing one in a rainbow (ROY G BIV) stripe.

Her channel has lots of crochet videos for those interested- including a granny ripple that looks very pretty.

Thank you Mom and Grandma for teaching this lefty how to do all these great crafts. Miss you and love you!

Movie Monday 3/19/2012

Here is a confession:  I sometimes use my blog to remind me of projects or techniques I want to try.  Today’s video is an example.

This video show a great technique that is super simple.  Adding more strips or maybe making the center square a four patch or nine patch would add even more excitement to the block.

Enjoy!

Movie Monday 3/12/2012

The information-and junk- out there just boggles my mind!

Today’s movie shows how creative some people can be.  A pineapple block created from triangles. We have this book in the shop-now I will have to check it out!

I have the templates to rotary cut these triangles…

Movie Monday 3/5/2012

Like I need something else to try.

Are you a Harry Potter fan? I have read the books several times and I have all the movies.  Right now I am rereading book six and Voldemort’s horcruxes have become very important.  A horcrux is a spell that can split your soul; Voldemort has split his soul seven times.

So what does all this have to do with quilting? Sometimes I feel like my time for creativity is constantly being split. I love to try new things! But each time I try something new, I am unable to work on other started projects.

And here is something new… BTW, I know that Quilting is misspelled.  I have not tried this yet but it does look intriguing!

Have a great day!

Movie Monday 2/27/2012

I guess I am on a binding kick.

This weekend I put the binding on two quilts and taught a class at the shop.

And now I found this. I posted a video a while back on binding  odd angles.  This video, also from Alicia’s Attic, shows how to bind inside angles.

Enjoy!

Once Upon a Time…and Movie Monday

….there was a lazy blogger.  OK she really wasn’t lazy, she just did not blog 6 times a day like some bloggers-or even once a day sometimes!

And we all know that the lazy blogger is me.

Am I really lazy? I hope not? I just find other things to do and then it has been a couple weeks since my last post.  Or I want to get a good picture. Or the camera is not charged and I don’t feel like getting up (OK- I am being lazy THEN)

And I look at other people’s blogs and think “Why all the comments?” And then I wonder if I want to put all the work into advertising or updating several times during the day.  Quite honestly, the answer is no.

I came across a blog the other day and the blogger said, in so many words, “Since no one comments on what I write, I won’t blog anymore!” (I could almost hear the foot stomp!)

I have felt that way a few times. But then my friend will call and ask why there isn’t a Movie Monday post.  Or I will see my sister-in-law and she will tell me her friend said she liked something I made.  And I will feel better. Someone is reading my posts!

I am not begging for comments so please don’t think that I am! I just have to remember why I write this blog. It really is for me. I occasionally go back through my posts and remember how proud I was of a project or how cute my grandsons (and Buddy!) are and how much fun I had somewhere.

And here is a confession- I subscribe to over 100 blogs.  Luckily they all don’t blog every day! Sometimes I read, sometimes I don’t.  Sometimes I comment and sometimes I don’t. And if you all out there are the same, that is OK with me!

Now, if you have stayed with me this long, I present Movie Monday!

I thought this was very interesting for those who quilt on a frame and those who don’t.  Dawn Cavanaugh, who does beautiful machine quilting talks about the direction that we quilt and how it affects our stitches.  Some quilters I have talked with agree with this, some don’t.  I am on the fence…(again!)

Have a great day!

Go Giants!

I don’t like football; I don’t follow football; I don’t care who wins today (OK it would be nice if NY won since I am from NY…); But I do love this picture of my little friend Amanda:

Movie Monday 1/30/12

Monday again. And the last one in January! Already!

This video is just a down and dirty way to make your own labels.  It is neat because you don’t need special transfer or photo fabric stuff (mind burp alert! I can’t think of the proper name!)

Enjoy!

Movie Monday 1/16/12

I remember watching Billie Lauder on Alex Anderson’s show (was it Sew Many Quilts? I can’t believe I don’t remember!!).

I think Eleanor Burns does the same trick. Either way It is still neat.

Enjoy!

No tips today.  Just a fun video from the 30’s predicting fashions in the 21st century. I love the men’s fashions.  And the cell phone holder is spot on! Enjoy!

Movie Monday 12/5/2011

Is everyone ready for the holidays?  Neither am I!  The house is decorated and I have wrapped some presents but there is still lots more to do.  The girls and I made sugar cookies last Friday.  This Thursday Adrienne and her family are coming home for our Christmas together.  And we will be decorating the sugar cookies together.  We will also try to make some more.

Today’s video is origami. I have done some origami in the past and I hope to try one of these snowflakes this year.  It is a rather long video (20 minutes) but the directions are very good.

Please let me know if you make one-and enjoy!

By the way, I know I have been ignoring my blog lately and  I have so many things to share!  But sitting and updating everything just has not gotten done.  I hope you will stay with me-I promise to post very soon!

Monday Movie- 12/1/11

Yes, I know I Know I have not posted in a while.  Yes I know that it is not Monday.  I hope that if I post a video of my grandsons (and Buddy!) you will forgive me.

I have lots to post- I will catch up soon!

In the meantime, enjoy!

Merry Christmas!

Movie Monday 11/14/2011

Good Morning everyone!  Sorry this is a little late.  I had some computer problems but I am now set to go.

This week’s video is a little self-serving but I am not getting paid or anything to show it.  I thought you all might like to see how I-any many others-set up for machine quilting.  While it may seem a little tedious-it takes me about a half hour to an hour now-it sure beats crawling around on the floor basting or safety-pinning my quilts!  My set up is similar to Kathy’s-I just have a different version of the frame.

Enjoy!
